We are excited to have the Crafty Chicks posting on our blog today. Alish and I always talk about which craft blogs are our favorite and theirs is definitely one of them! Day after day we are impressed with all their ideas!
We are thrilled to be guest posting on Sisters's Stuff today! I am Jamie one of the Crafting Chicks at www.thecraftingchicks.com. There are six of us chicks who are all friends that love to share our crafty ideas with each other. One of the Crafting Chicks, Jen, is my sister. It's fun to have a sister to get crafty with!
Growing up, our mom made us homemade ornaments. I still remember her sleds made out of popsicle sticks with our names on them and the little felt mice that were glued into a walnut shell. They are priceless! A new tradition that I have started with my own family, is to make a homemade ornament every year. My kiddos were so excited to hang their ornaments on our tree this year. They loved seeing their photo and name on their ornament.
So...today I shall share with you cute Homemade block ornaments we made last year as a family.
Supplies you will need to make these Homemade Block Ornaments:
1.5 inch plain wooden blocks (one for each family member-found at any craft store)
mod podge
scissors
photos/scrapbook paper-or you can do used digital scrapbook paper in photoshop
cup hooks (I used silver 7/8 in. ones)
ribbon to hang the ornaments
step one: cut out your squares for the sides {I digi scrapped mine in photo shop using a Christmas kit from Shabby Miss Jen} I put a letter on the front, name and year on the back, photos on the sides and cute scrapbook paper on top and bottom.
step two: mod podge the squares on, and modpodge over to seal (I like matte mod podge-not the gloss)
step three: screw in cup holders on top of the blocks when dry
step four: tie ribbon on and hang on your tree!
Here are the finished blocks before adding the hooks and ribbon.

Beautiful! Can't wait to thy this out. What a great little gift for the grandparents : ).
ReplyDeleteThese are so cute! And unlike most personalized ornaments, they don't look tacky. I love em! I'm featuring this post on my blog next week. Thanks for sharing!! little-inspirations.blogspot.com

These are sooooo sweet!! Such a great idea!
ReplyDeleteThese are adorable! I love how the date was included. I also like that they're square - something different than the traditional round bulb!
