I won an apron from Flirty Aprons (Thank you Sisters' Stuff and Flirty Aprons!) and love the Scarlet Blossom one I received. So, I have to tell you a story about why I love Flirty Aprons.
ReplyDeleteMy mom died in 2001. After the funeral, my dad told all us kids we could go through her stuff and pick out whatever we wanted. We all looked at her stuff in stunned silence, realizing we wanted nothing. We all went home, empty handed. What good were "things" when we didn't have her?
Some months later, after the initial shock wore off, I realized there was something of my mom's that I DID want--her aprons. Her aprons reminded me of her cooking and her cleaning and her caretaking. She wore frilly ones for the holidays and more basic styles for every day. Those aprons reminded me of everything she was to me.
I called my dad and asked if I could have her aprons. Sadly, when all the kids said they didn't want anything, he gave it all to the Goodwill. Those treasured aprons were gone. My dad felt badly so he sent me a care package of some men's style grilling aprons. They do the trick, but they are not "mom" aprons.
When I won the apron from Flirty Aprons via Sisters' Stuff, I had in my hands my own heirloom--a girly, sturdy, yes flirty, apron. Something my mom would have loved. Something that signifies all the caretaking that moms do. And something that keeps my clothing from getting ruined. (I can't tell you how many good office shirts I ruined for lack of an apron over the years.)
So there's my testimonial!
